Jerry Lai - US PRESSWIRE

Jamie Moyer, the former Philadelphia Phillies pitcher who spent this past season rehabbing from Tommy John surgery, worked out for scouts today. ESPN’s Ken Rosenthal tweeted that Moyer, 49 in a few weeks, looked “excellent.”

Moyer’s last major league contract expired after the 2010 season and he missed all of 2011 with an injury. For Moyer to return to the game in 2012 would mean pitching a 25th season in the big leagues, an almost-unprecedented feat.

The Phillies will almost assuredly not be offering Moyer a deal, especially with Roy Halladay, Cliff Lee, Cole Hamels, and Joe Blanton already under contract for next season, and Vance Worley likely earning the fifth spot.

Whether or not Moyer gets an offer to pitch is still to be determined, although at this point, it may have to be for a minor-league team.
