Howard Smith - US PRESSWIRE

The Philadelphia Phillies have added the following four players to their 40-man roster: catcher Sebastian Valle, right-handed pitcher Phillippe Aumont, outfielder Tyson Gillies, and left-handed pitcher Jacob Diekman. This protects all four of the players from next month’s Rule 5 draft.

Valle, 21, is a catcher in the high-A level. He is still young (21) but has been talked about as the possible heir apparent to Carlos Ruiz. Valle hit .284 for Clearwater in 2011, and was recently ranked as the second-best prospect in the Phillies organization.

Aumont, 22, was brought over in the Cliff Lee trade back in 2009. He posted a 2.68 ERA in 43 appearances for Double-A and Triple-A last year, striking out an incredible 78 hitters in 53.2 innings pitched. Aumont is currently ranked as the tenth best prospect in the farm system.

Gillies, 23, was also acquired in the Lee trade. He missed nearly the entire 2011 season due to injuries, playing in just three games for the high-A Clearwater Threshers.

Diekman, 23, posted a 3.05 ERA for Reading in 2011, posting a 1.72 ERA in his final 35 appearances. He was initially selected in the 30th round of the 2007 First-Year Player Draft.
