Philadelphia Phillies Agree to Terms With Veteran Pitcher Joel Pineiro
The Philadelphia Phillies have agreed to terms with Joel Pineiro, according to ESPN. The deal is a minor-league contract with an invite to spring training.
Pineiro was 7-7 with a 5.13 ERA last year for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, although he saw a significant drop in his strikeout rate (just 3.8 K/9).
Pineiro was 15-12 with a 3.49 ERA for the St. Louis Cardinals, leading the National League in shutouts (2) and walks per nine innings (1.1). He signed a two-year deal with the Angels prior to the 2010 season.
In his major league career, Pineiro has a 104-93 record with a 4.41 ERA on the Seattle Mariners, Boston Red Sox, Cardinals, and Angels.
