Tyler Kennedy Out 4-6 Weeks With High Ankle Sprain, Penguins Injury Updates
Looks like Pittsburgh Penguins winger Tyler Kennedy won’t be going anywhere at this year’s NHL Trade Deadline. The 25-year-old has recorded just six goals and 22 points in 42 games this season after scoring 21 goals and 45 points last year, but is now expected to miss four-to-six weeks with a high ankle sprain.
Arron Asham skated today for the first time since being diagnosed with a concussion on January 15. This is Asham’s second concussion in less than a year and the gritty winger is still considered to be a few weeks away from returning, but today’s skate was the first step towards a full recovery.
Center Jordan Staal still looks like he will return to the lineup Saturday against the Winnipeg Jets. Staal took a stick to the mouth during today’s practice and left the ice early to have it treated, but is expected to be fine after receiving some stitches.
Rookie defenseman Simon Despres also practiced again today. He paired with Ben Lovejoy on the team’s fourth defensive pairing, likely an indication he’ll be sent back to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton once he’s fully healthy and ready to play. I think I’m going reiterate how good this kid is going to be every single time I mention his name. Given his recent play, he may already be better than Paul Martin.
