And to think that scoring his 30th goal of the season yesterday afternoon, a personal best in his NHL career, was the highlight of this weekend.  Yet again forward James Neal tops that.

Early this morning the Penguins announced that they have resigned Neal for an additional six years worth $30 million through the 2017-18 season (thats $5 million a season which is quite an increase for him, but he has proven he is worth every penny of that increase and more to Pittsburgh).

There were those who doubted Neal’s ability early on after his being acquired along with Matt Niskanen from Dallas for Alex Goligoski when he failed to score more than one goal, but Neal started off the current season fast out of the gate with a goal in the first game of the season against the Vancouver Canucks and hasn’t looked back since.

He is currently tied for fourth in the league in goals with 30 and, according to PittsburghPenguins.com, he is the first Penguins winger to do so since Alexei Kovalev in 2001-02.
