As reported earlier on Rant Sports, Pittsburgh Penguins forward Craig Adams was assessed a one-game suspension for instigating a fight with Philadelphia Flyers forward Scott Hartnell yesterday which automatically led to a $10,000 fine handed down to head coach Dan Bylsma.

Pittsburgh was hoping the additional penalty on Adams would’ve been rescinded by the league, but was ultimately upheld.

James Neal was scheduled to speak with NHL Director of the Department of Player Safety, Brendan Shanahan, on two separate instances during the third period of this past Sunday’s game (hits on both Sean Couturier and Claude Giroux).

According to PittsburghPenguins.com, Neal spoke with Shanahan earlier this morning, but they have yet to hear of his final decision. Again, the Penguins are hopeful that Neal will not face supplemental discipline and can remain in the lineup for Game 4 against Philadelphia tomorrow. When asked about his talk with Shanahan, Neal had this to say:

It’s just about things. We go back and forth. I tell him what happens and he has his opinion.

(We) went over the plays and looked at the incident. Told him my views on it. It’s his decision. I’m not trying to hurt anybody or do anything like that. I’m going at a high rate of speed. I try to brace myself as much as possible.

Yesterday, it was reported that forward Arron Asham would be meeting with Shanahan this morning for his match play penalty for cross-checking Brayden Schenn; however, the Penguins webpage has said since then that it’s scheduled for this evening so it’s possible we won’t hear anything on either of these decisions until much later this evening.

But be sure to check back here for any updates as they are received.

MAINTENANCE DAY FOR DEFENSEMAN PAUL MARTIN
Penguins defenseman Paul Martin was not at practice today with the rest of the team (the only player not on the ice today); Bylsma reports that it’s a scheduled maintenance day for Martin and “is possible for Game 4.”

My guess would be that he WILL be in tomorrow’s lineup since there hasn’t been any call-ups from Pittsburgh’s AHL affiliate, WBS.

I don’t condone how the Penguins acted on Sunday; however, I don’t think Philly was exactly innocent. If you think they were, you have to be kidding me only because Philly has been doing this to us for the past how many playoffs and now all of a sudden they’ve turned innocent — NO WAY!!! You have your opinion and I appreciate it – thanks.
