Former Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher Ross Ohlendorf has signed with the Boston Red Sox, according to a tweet from Peter Gammons. The deal is believed to be a minor league contract.

The Pirates released Ohlendorf in December after an injury-riddled 2011 campaign resulted in a 1-3 record with an 8.15 ERA over 38.2 innings with the Pirates.

The Pirates acquired Ohlendorf in 2008 from the New York Yankees along with Jose Tabata and Daniel McCutchen in exchange for Xavier Nady and Damaso Marte.

In four seasons with Pittsburgh, Ohlendorf went 13-27 and posted a 4.60 ERA. He will forever be remembered as the pitcher who won his arbitration case against the Pirates despite posting a 1-11 record on the season in 2010.

The Pirates were scheduled to go to arbitration with newly acquired first baseman Casey McGehee next week, but the two sides have reportedly reached a deal. McGehee’s side had submitted a proposed salary of $2.725 million, while the Pirates had offered $2.35 million.

They settled at their midpoint of $2,537,500, according to Pirates Prospects.

The arbitration hearing for Garrett Jones was conducted this morning. The Pirates won the case and will pay Jones their proposed amount of $2.25 million. The left-handed hitter requested a $2.5 million contract.

Jones made $455,500 last season.
