Even though this year’s NFL season isn’t officially over, many are speculating what teams will do in the upcoming 2012 NFL Draft. A couple of predictions have been made for the Pittsburgh Steelers, who holds the 24th overall pick.

Andrew Perloff, of Sports Illustrated, predicts that the Steelers will pick defensive tackle Dontari Poe out of the University of Memphis in the first round.

Perloff writes, “Nose tackle Casey Hampton is 34 and will likely have knee surgery. The 6-5, 350-pound Poe is cut out of the same mold and should be a strong force in the middle of a 3-4 line.”

According to www.mockdraft101.com, offensive tackle Zebrie Sanders of Florida State is slated to be chosen by Pittsburgh. Here are the comments on why they feel that Sanders will be the 24th overall pick:

“Last season the Steelers spent a high pick on current RT Marcus Gilbert. While Gilbert [has] played well for a rookie, the Steelers still need help in the trenches. Sanders might be a reach at this point, but with the importance that OT play in this game, and the lack of talent that the Steelers have on the O-line, Sanders is well worth the reach at this point.”

It’s obvious that both the defensive and offensive lines are top priority for Pittsburgh. Assuming that there won’t be any dramatic changes with this year’s NFL prospects between now and April 26th, look for the Steelers to use their first pick on adding more talent to the trenches.
