With week 3 in the books, we look ahead to what should be another exciting weekend of Wisconsin high school football as we near the halfway point. With that being said, let’s take a look at this weeks AP high school football rankings and see where schools in the large, medium and small divisions wound up. As always, following the school is their record and where they were ranked one week ago.
LARGE DIVISION (enrollment 900+)
1. Hartland Arrowhead 3-0 1
2. Waunakee 3-0 2
3. Sun Prairie 3-0 3
4. Sussex Hamilton 3-0 4
5. Appleton North 3-0 7
6. Marshfield 3-0 6
7. Mequon Homestead 3-0 8
8. Kimberly 3-0 10
9. Monona Grove 2-1 9
10. Menomonie 3-0 NR
Top four teams remain the same from a week ago, but out of the rankings is Brookfield Central who lost last week to Sussex Hamilton 38-21. Menomonie jumps into this weeks rankings thanks to that Brookfield Central loss and a hot 3-0 start to the season. Marshfield should start creeping up the rankings as long as they continue to win in the tough Wisconsin Valley-South Conference.
MEDIUM DIVISION (301-899)
1. West De Pere 3-0 1
2. Walworth Big Foot 3-0 2
3. Wisconsin Lutheran 3-0 4
4. Plymouth 3-0 6
5. Kewaskum 3-0 5
6. Waupaca 3-0 7
7. Pewaukee 3-0 8
8. Platteville 3-0 9
9. Waukesha Catholic Memorial 2-1 3
10. Somerset 3-0 10
The big shakeup is with Waukesha Catholic Memorial who lost to Hartland Arrowhead 50-7. Other than that, all teams in the top ten from a week ago remained in the rankings. Teams such as Maple Northwestern, Mount Horeb/Barneveld and Elk Mound find themselves once again on the outside looking in.
SMALL DIVISION (300 and lower)
1. Fond du Lac Springs 3-0 1
2. Eau Claire Regis 3-0 4
3. Lancaster 3-0 3
4. Edgar 3-0 2
5. Potosi 3-0 6
6. Hilbert 3-0 9
7. Kenosha St. Joseph 3-0 10
8. Colby 2-1 5
9. Cuba City 3-0 NR
10. Hurley 2-1 8
Out of the rankings is last week’s number seven team Shiocton, who got blown out by Amherst 20-0. Regis, who I consider the hottest team in Wisconsin right now, moved two steps closer to the top position as they beat Colby 29-14 to hand them their first loss on the season. My pick to win this year’s Division 7 championship Potosi moves up one spot to number five.
