College Football Recruiting: Top Uncommitted Players
Right now in College Football Recruiting 2013, we’ve hit a little bit of a lull.
This is a bit of a dead period for the most part, with only coach evaluations of recruits taking place. After all, the prospects have their high school seasons underway and college coaches have their season taking place. Most of the top prospects have either given a verbal commitment to a school or have at least narrowed down their list considerably.
For the players who haven’t narrowed down their lists, they will shortly when they begin scheduling their official visits.
So let’s take a look at a few of the top uncommitted players…
Laremy Tunsil- Tackle- Lake City FL, Columbia- Tunsil is arguably the best tackle prospect in this class and it’s easy to see why. The 6’6’’ 295lb lineman is very athletic, especially considering his size. He has very good speed for the position, making him an ideal candidate for the blind side. Tunsil has narrowed down his list to three- Alabama, Georgia and Florida. He has given indication that Florida is #3 on the list, and it’s a toss-up between ‘Bama and the Dawgs for the top position. I wouldn’t read too much into this just yet, there’s a lot of time left. In the end, I still think he stays in the Sunshine State, and goes to that school just down I-75 from Lake City, to play for the Gators.
Derrick Green- Running Back- Richmond VA, Hermitage- Green is a monster back, and he is capable of taking snaps in a major BCS showdown this weekend. He’s been physically ready for college football for a few years now. Green has loosely narrowed down his list to (in no particular order) Auburn, Ole Miss, Michigan, Oregon, Tennessee and Virginia Tech. Something to note, he has already scheduled an official visit with Michigan to see the Wolverines take on Michigan State October 20th. This is probably going to be a guy who won’t give much indication where he’s leaning until he actually signs on the dotted line. My hunch is leaning towards the Virginia Tech.
Matthew Thomas- Outside Linebacker-Miami FL, Booker T. Washington- Thomas has narrowed his list down to five- Alabama, Florida State, Georgia, Miami and Southern Cal. Side Note: Can you imagine trying to choose between those schools? I have been saying for a long time Washington would go to FSU, and he recently announced that the ‘Noles were at the top of his list (pat on the back to me). Don’t think the battle to sign him is anywhere close to over though. After all, it’s very, very rare that an elite defender from Dade County Florida doesn’t go with the ’Canes. Still, he’s a carbon copy of every prodigious linebacker that ever came through Tallahassee, and he will carry on their tradition.
These are just three of the many uncommitted players, but these are three of the top 20-25 players in the country. The competition between coaches like Lane Kiffin, Nick Saban and Mark Richt extend far beyond the field, and always spill over onto the recruiting trail.
You better believe there’s going to be some intense moments in the next few months over these guys.
