The Lake County Game of the Week features a Lake Zurich team that hasn’t given up a point at home all season against the Lake Forest Scouts, who are coming off a 20-13 win on the road against Lakes. However, while fans are excited for this game, this game may not happen at all. As of this writing, Lake Forest teachers are on strike and under IHSA rules, any school on strike cannot participate in any varsity athletic event and if the strike isn’t resolved by Friday, the game will likely be cancelled.
The Bears scored four first-quarter touchdowns last week in pounding out a 49-0 win against Mundelein. The Lake Zurich defense got involved with two fumble return touchdowns in the game to keep Mundelein off the scoreboard. Joey Holtz scored a 35-yard touchdown one play off another Mundelein turnover. The Bears got touchdowns from seven different players in getting the win.
Lake Forest scored with five minutes left to improve to 3-0 with their win against Lakes as Andrew Clifford hit David Glynn for the winning touchdown and their second TD connection of the night. Stephen Cirame scored a touchdown and have over 110 yards rushing. The Scouts are 3-0 for the second time in the last five years.
The biggest story going into the game is the strike and how it would affect the Lake Forest players, who would have little or no time for a scheduled practice before this game. Can the Scouts overcome this or will Lake Zurich hit the road and get a win? I think it’s going to be real rough for the Lake Forest to get ready for this game with everything going on. I’ll go with Lake Zurich winning this one 21-7 if it happens and I certainly hope it does.
