This week’s McHenry County Game of the Week features the Crystal Lake Central Tigers, who are coming off their second last-second win of the season in Week 3 to move to 2-1 on the season against a Woodstock North Thunder team that is playing their first home game of the season after starting 2-1.
The Tigers won 21-14 on a Darwin Stone touchdown run with just 21 seconds to play. Central won their season opener with a touchdown in the final minute of play as well. Central is going to be a team to be reckoned with all season especially if they can continue their pattern of making last-game comebacks. The Tigers have been outscored 56-54 but still have a winning record for the season.
North comes into this game off a 41-0 shutout of Johnsburg in Week 3. Adam Haimbaugh scored three touchdowns and had two interceptions in the first half as the Thunder jumped out to a 34-0 halftime lead. Ryan Wade ran for 157 yards including several double digit runs as North took the game over early in the second quarter. North has given up just 31 points on the season.
The Thunder will be ready to finally come home after spending the first three weeks on the road and are riding a ton of confidence into this game. Central rolls in with two late victories and basically playing on the seat of their pants in staying in games before coming out on top in the end. This is a game where the style of play will be big from North’s running attack to Central’s spread offense. On a night where the weather is expected to be cool and possibly windy, I’ll take North to get the victory in this one. I’ll go with the Thunder in a 28-20 win.
