This Mid Suburban League crossover battle and Week 4 Northern Cook County Game of the Week features a Fremd team that scored the most points in school history last week against a Rolling Meadows team that put up 34 points in their first loss of the season.
The Vikings come at 2-1 with wins the last two weeks in their other MSL crossover games. In Week 3, Fremd put a 56-7 win against Wheeling that was buoyed for two punt return touchdowns and a 49-0 halftime lead. Jeff McGlade and Darius Burchett each had two rushing touchdowns in that opening half while the Fremd defense came up strong and took the ball away three times from the Wildcats. Fremd rolled up nearly 285 yards rushing on the night to take control from the start.
Rolling Meadows and their powerful offense lost a 41-34 game against Conant. The Mustangs have scored 119 points in their first three games and were only stopped by an equally strong offense in Week 3. Jack Milas, who will be going to Ball State next season, threw for five touchdowns and over 335 yards. Rolling Meadows did cut a 20-point third quarter lead down to one in the fourth quarter but couldn’t get the score to take the lead.
This game boils down to the Rolling Meadows offense against a Fremd defense that has given up just 14 points the past two weeks. Milas and company have been hard to stop all season long and I don’t think they will be stopped this week either but can the Fremd offense score enough to keep up? In the end, I don’t see that happening here in this final week of MSL crossover games before divisional play begins next week. I’ll take the Mustangs to get a 35-27 win.
