The 4-0 (2-0) Cadillac Vikings entered into this week in a trap game, but they wouldn’t be caught in it as they rolled over the 0-4 (0-2) Gaylord Blue Devils by a score of 33-6. The thing is the Vikings weren’t really in sync for parts of this game, but still won handily. The running game worked well enough for Cadillac as they hit the holes opened up by Riley Norman and company.

The Vikings got it started early when they scored on a Jalen Brooks 1-yard run. The Blue Devils did answer back, but Brooks scored again on a 6-yard run, to make the score 14-6 at the end of the quarter.

In the second quarter is when Cadillac started pulling away. Nolan Goerner broke free for a 31-yard touchdown run. Gaylord tried to go for it on 4th down on their side of the field, but their big tackle Norman stuffed the play, giving his offense a short field. The Vikings answered with another Brooks touchdown run, this one of 11 yards. The score at the half was 26-6.

The final score of the game came late in the final quarter when Tanner Derror took a run in for 1 yard. After the extra point, the score was 33-6 and that would be the final.

Norman and company did well at giving their offense holes. As a team they rushed for 278 yards and that came with 5 touchdowns. You can’t really say anything about those numbers. The offense moved the ball very well. The part that was scary to me though was that the offense didn’t think they clicked all that well. I have seen what they’ve done in other games, so this team could be poised for a long run if they are better than what they were tonight.

The defense also played very well. They had the big fourth down stop by Norman, a fumble recovery, and an interception. They only gave up 6 points and made Gaylord struggle all night long on getting anything going.

Cadillac only had 59 yards passing, but when they were up big and running the ball like they were, they didn’t need to put it in the air. I don’t see a need to blow out opponents if it is not needed and it is good to see that they were moving the ball on the ground to run out the clock. We have seen in past weeks that if the Vikings can throw the ball, they have had time from the line and can move it through the air if they need to. Sometimes you need to work it to make sure it doesn’t become rusty.

Cadillac will look to continue their winning ways as they will take on a tough opponent on the road in the 3-1 (2-0) Traverse City West Titans. The Titans destroyed the Alpena Wildcats on the road by a score of 42-0.

Gaylord will try to win their first game as they host the 0-4 (0-2) Alpena Wildcats.
