Winning is something the Chelsea Bulldogs want to become a habit. They move to 1-3 (1-0) as they defeated the 0-4 (0-1) Ypsilanti Phoenix by a score of 43-18. Chelsea’s running back Berkley Edwards had a solid game as he gained 93 and added 2 touchdowns.

The Bulldogs got it going early when their quarterback Logan Brown hit Nate Bossory for a 15 yard touchdown pass. On Ypsilanti’s next possession they were held to a three and out, but when they tried to punt the ball, it was blocked and returned for a touchdown. They weren’t done yet when Chelsea’s Michael Steinhauer picked off a pass and returned it 58 yards for a touchdown. The kick failed on the last score making it 20-0 Chelsea.

Early into the 2nd, Edwards scored his first touchdown as he ran it in from 3 yards. The Phoenix would answer back before the half ended with two scores of their own. Their first was Jaavid Love 3 yard touchdown run. The other was a Jacob Simmons 52 yard interception return for a touchdown. The score at half was 26-12.

The third quarter is when the Bulldogs blew it wide up. They started scoring with a 34 yard field goal by Zach Rabbitt. Next was by Edwards again who took another in from 12 yards out. The final score of the night for Chelsea was by Ty Nelson who went in from 1 yard out.

The final quarter saw only one score, this one from the Phoenix and it was on a Love run of 2 yards. The 2 point conversion was no good and the final score was 43-18.

Edwards finally had another good game on the ground. There were a couple of scores that came from the defense, so they didn’t need much more out of him than what they got. He still carried it for over 7 yards a carry, which is something good to see from him. They should continue to build on this success as they move forward.

Another thing I noticed in this game was that they got help from other players on the offensive side of the ball. They will need more of this as well going forward if they want to continue to have success and build upon what they did against the Phoenix.

The defense played well enough, giving up 250 yards of offense to Ypsilanti and 12 points. The Phoenix has struggled all year and continues to struggle, but it was a good game to help them get back on track. Much like the offense, they need to build on what they did going forward if they want to be successful.

Next week Chelsea will travel down to face the 1-3 (1-0) Adrian Maples. Adrian scored their first victory of the season when they defeated the Dexter Dreadnaughts by a score of 48-7.

Ypsilanti will face another tough test as they take on the 4-0 (1-0) Tecumseh Indians. The Indians rolled the Ypsilanti Lincoln Railsplitters 41-14 in Ypsilanti.
