Illinois High School Football: Week 5 Fox Valley Conference game capsules
Some big games this week in the Fox Valley Conference as Week 5 arrives….
Johnsburg (0-4, 0-2) at Grayslake Central (1-3, 0-2): The Skyhawks lost their 16th straight game in a 41-7 loss to Grayslake North. Jake Hauck scored the lone touchdown for Johnsburg. Central was shutout 31-0 by Woodstock. Tyler Gustke ran for 45 yards and threw for 33 more for the Rams.
Grayslake North (3-1, 1-0) at Hampshire (2-2, 1-0): AJ Fish took control early in a 41-7 win over Johnsburg for the Knights. Fish threw for over 270 yards and ran for over 210 more with four touchdowns. Pat Kuefner ran for nearly 75 yards for the Whip-Purs but Hampshire lost 49-13 to Cary-Grove.
Woodstock North (2-2, 1-1) at Woodstock (2-2, 1-1): This in-city battle features two .500 teams as the Thunder came in off a 21-14 loss to Crystal Lake Central. North allowed a 14-0 lead to slip away in the loss. The Blue Streaks shutout Grayslake Central 31-0 led by Brad Bertram’s over 100 yards rushing.
Jacobs (3-1, 1-0) at Cary-Grove (4-0, 1-0): A wild shootout went Jacobs’ way in a 49-42 win to McHenry. Steven Varela ran for almost 170 yards and four touchdowns. Cary got over 140 yards rushing from Kyle Norberg in a 49-13 win over Hampshire. Quinn Baker threw for over 100 yards and ran for 85 yards while scoring twice.
Dundee-Crown (3-1, 1-1) at Huntley (2-2, 2-0): Two teams that weren’t expected to be .500 are heading into Week 5 that way. D-C defeated Prairie Ridge 35-21 as JT Beasley ran for 120 yards including a 64-yard touchdown run. The Red Raiders defeated Crystal Lake South 20-19 for Huntley’s first win ever over South. Kameron Sallee threw three touchdown passes for Huntley.
McHenry (2-2, 1-1) at Crystal Lake South (1-3, 0-2): The Warriors scored 42 points in Week 4 but wasn’t enough in a 49-42 loss to Jacobs. Korey Partenheimer caught three passes, all for touchdowns for McHenry. South fell 20-19 on a fourth-quarter touchdown to Huntley. Austin Rogers ran for over 135 yards from the quarterback position for the Gators.
Prairie Ridge (2-2) at Crystal Lake Central (3-1): The Wolves lost their second straight in a 35-21 loss at Dundee-Crown. Oliver Kremer had two touchdowns before getting hurt for Prairie Ridge. Central won their third game of the season with a score in the final two minutes in a 21-14 win over Woodstock North. Darwin Stone scored the winning touchdown with 1:10 to play.
