Illinois High School Football: Week 5 North Suburban Conference game capsules
A busy week in the North Suburban Conference with a battle between North Chicago and Wauconda leading the way….
Warren (2-2, 1-1) at Stevenson (3-1, 1-0): The Blue Devils took a 14-0 lead but couldn’t hold on in a 42-24 loss to Libertyville. Adam Reuss threw for over 200 yards for Warren. It was a dominating night for Stevenson in a 42-7 win over Grant. QB Willie Bourbon and Cameron Green connected on a 59-yard touchdown score.
Zion-Benton (1-3, 1-1) at Lake Forest (3-1, 0-1): The Zee-Bees got the first way of the season in a 32-18 win over Mundelein. Alex Pasiewicz scored four times and rushed for nearly 300 yards in the win. Lake Forest had to forfeit their game against Lake Zurich due to a teacher’s strike.
Mundelein (0-4, 0-2) at Libertyville (3-1, 1-1): Mundelein’s Homecoming was ruined in a 32-18 loss to Zion-Benton. The Mustangs have lost 13 straight games. The Wildcats rallied from 14 down to beat Warren 42-24. Conor Simpson had 115 yards receiving to lead Libertyville.
Lakes (3-1, 1-0) at Antioch (2-2, 1-1): Direll Clark ran for just 88 yards but the Eagles didn’t need much in a 60-0 win over Round Lake. Lakes led 54-0 by halftime. The Sequoits got pounded 35-7 by North Chicago. Austin Klotter had a 50-yard touchdown run for Antioch.
Vernon Hills (1-3, 0-2) at Grant (3-1, 1-0): Sam Maloofs ran for over 145 yards and a touchdown but the Cougars lost 20-14 to Wauconda. It’s Homecoming at Grant and the Bulldogs will hope to rebound from a 42-7 stomping from Stevenson. Jonathan Wells had the lone touchdown for Grant.
North Chicago (4-0, 2-0) at Wauconda (3-1, 1-1): Arnold Shead scored three touchdowns as the Warhawks stayed undefeated with a 35-7 win over Antioch. The Bulldogs scored 20 straight points in a 20-14 win over Vernon Hills. Austin Piekarski had seven catches and two touchdowns for Wauconda.
Lake Zurich (3-1) at Round Lake (0-4): Lake Zurich had a week off in theory after getting a forfeit win over Lake Forest with the teachers on strike there. It was a long night for the Panthers in a 60-0 loss to Lakes. Tyler Hernandez ran for over 55 yards on 40 carries for Round Lake.
