Top Week 5 Wisconsin Prep Football Games
We are halfway through high school football season as teams are looking to lock up a playoff berth. Below are my top five games of the week in Wisconsin.
Brookfield East Spartans (4-0) @ Brookfield Central Lancers (3-1) This game not only could possibly determine the winner of the Greater Metro Conference, but it pits two future Wisconsin Badgers. Alec James (pictured) of the Spartans will go against Chikwe Obasih for the last time in their prep football career. If you happen to be in or around the Milwaukee area you do not want to miss two future Badgers squaring off against each other and two teams fighting for a conference championship. MY PICK: James and the Spartans will get the upper hand in this contest.
Stratford Tigers (3-1) @ Edgar Wildcats (4-0) A great rivalry in the state of Wisconsin that will come to and end for one coach. Tigers head coach Cal Tackes is retiring at the end of the season and a win here would not only make Tackes happy, but it would also help the Tigers keep pace with the Wildcats in the Marawood Conference. The Wildcats will look to stay undefeated on the season and carry momentum into the second half of the season as they start their push to the playoffs. MY PICK: The Wildcats are too talented and will win this game and defeat Coach Tackes one last time.
Pewaukee Pirates (4-0) @ Wauwatosa West Trojans (4-0) The Trojans have averaged 49 points in four games this season and have put at least 50 points on the board. The Pirates have only allowed 7.5 points per game thus far, giving up a season high 24 last week in the victory against the Greendale Panthers and shutting out two teams earlier in the year. Something is going to have to give here as these two teams battle for sole possession of first place in the Woodland West Conference. MY PICK: A very tough call as this game could go either way, but I’m taking the Pirates and their stingy defense.
Black River Falls Tigers (4-0) @ Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau Red Hawks (3-1) The Tigers look to remain perfect and remain in first place in the Coulee Conference. The Red Hawks are hoping to avenge last week’s loss to another conference rival West Salem Panthers 21-14. The Tigers are led by quarterback Ethan Young who has passed for seven touchdowns and one interception and collecting 770 yards through the air. MY PICK: The game will be close, but I’m taking the Tigers to win this Coulee Conference matchup.
Cumberland Beavers (4-0) @ Northwestern Tigers (4-0) This game is for first place in the Heart O’North Conference standings. The Beavers come into the game averaging 41 points per game while the Tigers are averaging 35 points a game in the first four games. This game will come down to whose defense will be able to stop the others offense. Winner of this game will go on to win the conference in my eyes. MY PICK: I’m taking the Tigers in this one and go on to win the Heart O’North Conference.
There you have it, five games around the state of Wisconsin to watch. To recap I picked Brookfield East, Edgar, Pewaukee, Black River Falls and Northwestern to come out victorious this weekend. Check back this weekend as I give you news and notes from Friday night’s games.
