This is a pivotal week for the 0-4 (0-2) Sand Creek Aggies. They are effectively eliminated from making the playoffs, but how will they respond? Will they pack it in the rest of the year? Or will they come out and play with pride to wear their school colors to try and salvage what they can from this season? We will see what they do when they will play host to the 1-3 (1-1) Whitmore Lake Trojans.

Whitmore Lake has been at the wrong end of a couple blow-outs this year. In their first game they traveled to play the Stockbridge Panthers and were destroyed 67-20. This has been Stockbridge’s only win this season and it was an impressive one as their quarterback threw for 317 yards and 4 touchdowns while their running game added another 184 yards on the ground with 4 touchdowns as well.

The other blow out was last week when they hosted the Britton-Deerfield Patriots who defeated them 51-28. Their offense had a lot of success against this Trojan defense when it racked up 218 yards through the air with a touchdown and an impressive 362 yards on the ground with 7 touchdowns.

In between these games there was a loss to Ann Arbor Gabriel Richard at home 24-8 and their only win was over conference opponent Morenci Bulldogs on the road 16-0.

This Whitmore Lake offense is hard to gauge and Sand Creek’s defense can either be in business for once this year or could struggle again. Looking at them overall, the Trojan offense has only averaged scoring 18 points a game. In both of their blow out losses, Whitmore Lake has scored a lot of points in garbage time to make that loftier, because in both of their close games they have only scored 24 points. The problem is that Sand Creek’s defense hasn’t really been able to stop anybody to this point. The Trojans do commit a lot of turnovers and that is how the Aggies are going to need to get them off the field. It will start with their defense line though, if they can get pressure on their quarterback and make him have happy feet, they can give their secondary a chance. If not he could pick them apart all game. Stopping the running game will start with them as well.

Sand Creek’s offense has been solid in 3 of their 4 games with moving the ball. I have said it every week and it has been their downfall each time, turnovers. If the Aggies don’t turn the ball over, they could be 3-1 right now. There have been bad pitches leading to fumbles in the running game and costly interceptions thrown. I think Sand Creek has quite the offense if they don’t turn it over. If they turn the ball again this week, then they will lose yet again by giving the Trojans’ offense extra possessions. I think the Aggies’ defense is hurt by their offense a lot too.

Last year, Sand Creek won the game on the road by a score of 33-14. As stated, this is a much different team that isn’t as strong as last year. I do think this is a winnable game for the Aggies at home. If Sand Creek can limit the turnovers and move the ball as they have, I think they will take some of the pressure off of their defense and put it on Whitmore Lake. If they do turn it over, I think they will again struggle and find themselves down late or losing another lead. My prediction for this game is if the Aggies have 1 turnover or fewer, they win this game 34-21. If they turnover it over 2+, Trojans win 35-28.

This game will be played at 7:00 p.m. on September 21, 2012 at Sand Creek High School in Sand Creek, Michigan.
