Week 6 Wisconsin Prep Football AP Rankings

Patrick Flood-THE REPORTER

Week five of Wisconsin high school football brought us upsets and also teams that qualified for the playoffs. This weeks installment of the AP rankings reflect just that as there are some teams that moved up while others fell out of the top ten. As usual teams for this ranking are split up into three divisions large, medium or small based on enrollment. Following team name is record and where they were ranked a week ago.

LARGE DIVISION (900+)

1. Hartland Arrowhead  5-0  (1)

2. Waunakee  5-0  (2)

3. Sun Prairie  5-0  (3)

4. Appleton North  5-0  (5)

5. Marshfield  5-0  (6)

6. Mequon Homestead  5-0  (7)

7. Kimberly  5-0  (8)

8. Menomonie  5-0  (9)

9. Monona Grove  4-1  (10)

10. Brookfield East  5-0  (NR)

The big news here is last week’s number four team Sussex-Hamilton fell out of the top ten after losing to Menomonee Falls 24-21. With the loss that allows Brookfield East to crack the top ten after they won the “Battle of Brookfield” by defeating Brookfield Central 37-14.

MEDIUM DIVISION (301-899)

1. West De Pere  5-0  (1)

2. Walworth Big Foot  5-0  (2)

3. Wisconsin Lutheran  5-0  (3)

4. Plymouth  5-0  (4)

5. Kewaskum  5-0  (5)

6. Waupaca  5-0  (6)

7. Pewaukee  5-0  (7)

8. Somerset  5-0  (8)

9. Mount Horeb Barneveld  5-0  (10)

10. Waukesha Catholic Memorial  3-2  (9)

My complaint here is why Waukesha Catholic Memorial is still in the top ten when you have teams like Maple Northwestern or even Northland Pines, who are both 5-0, still on the outside looking in. Maybe next week one of those two teams will be able to make an appearance in these rankings, as I think Maple Northwestern should have been in the top ten already.

SMALL DIVISION (300 and lower)

1. St. Mary’s Springs  5-0  (1)

2. Eau Claire Regis  5-0  (2)

3. Lancaster  5-0  (3)

4. Edgar  5-0  (4)

5. Potosi  5-0  (5)

6. Hilbert  5-0  (6)

7. Cuba City  5-0  (7)

8. Bangor  5-0  (9)

9. Lake Country Lutheran  5-0  (10)

10. Stanley-Boyd  5-0  (NR)

Stanley-Boyd was finally able to jump in at number ten after they defeated last week’s number eight team Colby 23-10. The top five in this division are very tough as I do not see any of those teams losing the rest of the regular season.
