Big-time matchups brought a shakeup in this week’s Northern Cook County Top 10. Team record and last week’s ranking in parentheses….

1. Maine South (5-0, 1): The Hawks got four touchdowns from Matt Alviti in a 45-14 win over New Trier.

2. Loyola (4-1, 2): Another week, another shutout for the Ramblers. This time, it was a 42-0 win at Gordon Tech.

3. Palatine (4-1, 3): Eric Theis caught seven passes for over 125 yards and two touchdowns, as the Pirates beat Hoffman Estates 48-7.

4. Niles West (5-0, 5): The 13-0 victory over Waukegan was the fifth straight win for the Wolves. Maine South will be their next test in the battle of unbeatens.

5. Niles Notre Dame (4-1, 6): Chris James ran wild for the second straight week, scoring five touchdowns in a 40-21 win over St. Viator.

6. Rolling Meadows (4-1, 7): Jack Milas threw for 200 yards, and the Mustang defense did the rest in a 35-9 win over Wheeling.

7. Leyden (4-1, 8): The Eagles handed Hinsdale South their first loss of the season in a 17-14 win. Mickey Gulo had 85 yards rushing.

8. Glenbrook North (4-1, 9): Grant Rushing ran for three touchdowns and 235 yards as the Spartans pounded Deerfield 42-14.

9. Conant (4-1, 10): Danny Modelski threw for over 240 yards, as he rallied the Cougars from 14 down to beat Schaumburg 30-21.

10. Schaumburg (4-1, 4): The Saxons allowed a 14-point second half lead to slip away, as they lost their Mid-Suburban League opener to Conant.
