Illinois High School Football: Week 6 Lake County Game of the Week

Game of the Week

The Week 6 Lake County Game of the Week features two teams looking for their fifth win of the season as the Libertyville Wildcats travel to play the Lake Forest Scouts in North Suburban Conference action.

Libertyville rolled behind near perfect play in Week 5 with a 40-8 win over Mundelein. Brian Swift rushed for five touchdowns all in the first half while quarterback Jack Deichl didn’t have a single incompletion, going 15-for-15 for over 165 yards and a touchdown. The Wildcats snuck into the playoffs last year with a 5-5 record and are trying to get to 5-1 this week under new coach Mike Jones. Libertyville is averaging over 35 points per game this season.

Lake Forest got to hit the field again after having to forfeit their Week 4 game against Lake Zurich because of a teacher’s strike. The Scouts got three touchdowns from Hub Cirame on his birthday in beating Zion-Benton 41-13. Lake Forest also forced three turnovers which all led to touchdowns. Lake Forest has been a stout defense all season long, giving up just 33 points in the four games that the team has played this season.

This becomes a battle of solid offense in Libertyville and great defense from Lake Forest. If Deichl can get time to throw, the Libertyville offense may be able to move on Lake Forest at least in the early going. This game has definitely conference title hopes written on it with each team already having a loss and can’t afford a second one if a conference championship is wanted. I think the Lake Forest defense will slow down Libertyville and give the Scouts a 23-13 win.
