This week’s McHenry County Game of the Week features two teams that appear to be going in different directions as the 3-2 Huntley Red Raiders visit the 3-2 Jacobs Golden Eagles in Fox Valley Conference action.
Huntley has won three straight games since starting 0-2 including a 31-28 win over Dundee-Crown in Week 5 where Kameron Sallee threw three touchdown passes to lead Huntley to the win. Sallee also kicked the game-winning field goal early in the fourth quarter. Huntley’s defense wouldn’t let D-C get the tying or winning score after that. Huntley has already passed their win total from last season with their three wins after winning just two in 2011.
Jacobs got run over by Cary-Grove in Week 5 during a 45-14 defeat and has had trouble stopping opponent’s offenses the past three weeks. The Golden Eagles have given up 147 points the past three weeks but are 1-2 in those games. Bret Mooney threw for over 250 yards and Steven Varela had 65 yards rushing but it wasn’t nearly enough. It will be important that the Jacobs defense tightens up or it may be a long night for the fans on Homecoming.
This game seems fairly simple to me with Huntley on a roll and Jacobs having problems on defense at this point but can the Red Raiders keep up this momentum or will they be looking ahead to next week’s game at Cary-Grove which could determine the divisional title. This will be a shootout between Sallee and Mooney at the quarterback position and I think both will pass 300 yards through the air in the contest. I believe though Huntley will find a way to come out on top. I’ll take the Red Raiders 41-35.
