OT Riley Norman, Cadillac Look To Right Ship Against Alpena
After having a great start to the season, the 4-2 (2-2) Cadillac Vikings have lost two straight. Costly mistakes and turnovers have hurt them, but this week they look to get back on track when they face the 1-5 (1-2) Alpena Wildcats. They will look to get their running game going again behind their big offensive line led by Riley Norman. Will they be able to against the lowly Wildcats?
Alpena kicked their season off at home against the Escanaba Eskymos. They found themselves also blanked in that game as Escanaba won it 21-0.
From there they went on the road for two, against the Sault Area Blue Devils who scored a blow out victory over them 46-10. Their other game was the beginning of conference play against the Traverse City Central Trojans who also showed a dominating effort when they beat them 47-6.
The Wildcats came home to face the Traverse City West Titans who destroyed the Wildcats 42-0.
Alpena went to the Gaylord Blue Devils and score their only victory of the season with a 36-21 win.
They then came back home to face off against the Cheboygan Chiefs and couldn’t hang with them as they were defeated once again, this time by a score of 42-14.
This does look like a game that the Vikings can use to get back on track. Alpena has struggled to score as they have been shut-out twice and are only averaging 11 points per game. Cadillac’s defense has been good minus the game against the Titans.
Their problem lately has been turnovers by the offense have forced them into a short field. They usually play good, fundamentally sound defense and force their opponent into mistakes. They have given up some points and they are allowing 19.7 points per game, but that is stagger a bit from the Traverse City West score.
On offense they have looked good until the last two weeks. Against that tough Titan defense, they were forced into some turnovers which aren’t like them. It carried over to their next game against the Ogemaw Heights Falcons.
Alpena could be a team that they could get back on track against since they have struggled with pretty much everyone on their schedule. I think they need to get back to basics, focus on ball control and use their running game that has worked so well. I don’t think the Wildcats will be able to stop them if they do.
Last year when these two teams played, Cadillac traveled to Alpena and came away with the 38-9 victory.
I think we will see something similar to that again this year. Alpena is not very good again and I think Cadillac is better than what they’ve shown the past two weeks. I think this will be a game that they can get back to what they do and get some confidence back going forward. They still need two more wins to automatically qualify for the playoffs and I think they get one of them this week. My prediction for the final score is similar to last year’s, 35-14.
This game will be played on Friday, October 5th at 7:00 p.m. at Cadillac High School in Cadillac, Michigan.
