On Tuesday, October 2 Julius Randle cut his list of colleges to six. His list includes: NC State, Kentucky, Texas, Florida, Oklahoma and Kansas.
Randle already visited Kentucky and had his most recent visit with Florida last weekend. Randle and Billy Donovan, Florida Gators head coach, already worked together on the United States’ under-18 national squad and Donovan hopes Randle will choose Florida.
If your a basketball enthusiast and haven’t heard about Randle then you need to jump on youtube and check this kid out. He is a amazing talent and his intensity reminds me of a young Kevin Garnett. He can shoot from the outside and take it strong to the basket. Last year, he averaged 21 PPG and 8.8 RPB with Prestonwood Christian Academy in Piano, Texas.
Although his intensity reminds of Garnett, his gameplay surely doesn’t. If Randle hopes to be a top player like Garnett, he definitely needs to find himself down low. He is too big and too strong to be playing on the perimeter like Derrick Rose. Don’t get me wrong, Randle has found success on the perimeter, but if he plans to be effective he has to stop trying to be a guard. I would love to see Randle call for the ball in the post, take one drop step and float it off the backboard.
I was truly disappointed to see that North Carolina was cut off Randle’s list. I felt the Tar Heels were perfect for Randle and his style of play. Roy Williams could of have helped Randle with his overall game and maturity.
With the Tar Heels out, I’m hoping Randle chooses Kentucky.
