After a rough start on the season, the 4-3 (4-0) Chelsea Bulldogs showed how playing a tough non-conference to start your schedule can pay dividends as they take on the win-less 0-7 (0-4) Dexter Dreadnaughts. Chelsea is in sole possession of the Southeastern Conference-White and can seal the title with a win this week. Their running back Berkley Edwards looks to be once more the big reason that his team wins this week.

Dexter’s season has been bad to say the least. They opened up the season with three home games and were blown out in all of them. The first was against the Fowlerville Gladiators who blanked the Dreadnaughts 29-0. Next to come in were the Skyline Eagles who won 41-14. Then finally the Pioneer Pioneers who dominated 69-0.

The Dreadnaughts hit the road to face the Adrian Maples and lost 48-7.

They then came back home to face the Lincoln Railsplitters and were destroyed 42-3.

From here they went back on the road to be blanked once again by the Tecumseh Indians 49-0.

Then last week they played their only close game. It was against the Ypsilanti Phoenix who snuck past for the 13-7 win.

There isn’t really much to say about this one. I think Chelsea’s defense won’t have any problems stopping the Dexter offense. They have only scored 31 points this year and have been blown out most of the time. The Bulldogs defense didn’t look all that good at the beginning of the year, but they have gotten stronger as the season has gone on. As I have alluded to, the tough non-conference they played has really benefited them coming into conference play. I believe Chelsea will shut them down and I would be surprised if Dexter can manage 14 points in this one.

Offensively I wouldn’t be surprised to see a lot of Edwards, until they get up big and take him out to keep him from getting hurt that is. This could hurt his numbers, unless he has a big first half. The Dreadnaughts’ defense has been as bad as their offense. It has given up 41.6 points per game this season and they haven’t given up less than 13 points in any game. I think Edwards will put up some numbers, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see the Bulldogs as a team put up huge numbers.

Last year when these two teams faced, Chelsea traveled to play Dexter and scored the 31-15 victory. Edwards had a rough time last year as he rushed the ball 21 times for 34 yards with 2 touchdowns. He also caught 2 passes for 16 yards. I don’t think that will happen again this year.

I believe the Bulldogs will blow out the Dreadnaughts this time around. Dexter is having trouble showing they belong on the same field as their opponents and that will continue this week. Dexter hasn’t been able to move the ball and score on anyone with a lot of success. They haven’t been able to stop anyone either. I think Edwards will have at least 100 yards rushing and 2 touchdowns, depending how fast it takes for this game to get out of hand. Either way, I believe Chelsea runs away with it 45-7.

This game will be played on Friday October, 12th at 7:00 p.m. at Chelsea High School in Chelsea, Michigan.
