Illinois High School Football: Week 9 Central Suburban League game capsules

Several teams are in must-win situations to have a chance or clinch a playoff berth during the final week of the season…..

Highland Park (3-5, 3-1) at Deerfield (4-4, 3-1): Andrew Sledd had two touchdowns and over 100 yards rushing as the Giants lost 48-28 to Glenbrook North. The Warriors stayed alive for the playoffs with a 34-28 win over Niles North. Jake Balder had three touchdowns including an 80-yard run with less than four minutes left to seal the win.

Maine West (1-7, 0-4) at Niles North (3-5, 1-3): West had their losing streak hit seven straight in a 13-7 loss to Maine East. Matt Swanson scored the lone touchdown and had over 80 yards rushing in the loss. North rallied from 21 points down to pull within seven but couldn’t get any closer in a 34-28 loss to Deerfield.

Glenbrook North (7-1, 4-0) at Maine East (3-5, 1-3): The Spartans rolled along with a 48-28 win over Highland Park in Week 8. Grant Rushing had nearly 190 rushing yards and added two interceptions on defense. East got two touchdowns from Christian Lopez in a 13-7 win against Maine West. Lopez finished the game with over 150 yards rushing.

Niles West (5-3, 1-3) at Evanston (4-4, 1-3): A late rally wasn’t enough as the Wolves lost 35-25 to Glenbrook South. Tommy Galanopoulos and Anthony Underwood scored late touchdowns for West. Devin Boehm had nine catches for over 110 yards and a touchdown but the Wildkits fell 15-9 to New Trier and must win this week to have a chance for the playoffs. Marcus Hampton scored the only touchdown for Evanston.

Maine South (8-0, 4-0) at Glenbrook South (5-3, 3-1): Northwestern recruit Matt Alviti threw for over 320 yards and four touchdowns as the Hawks defeated Waukegan 44-20. John Solari had two touchdown catches and over 80 yards receiving in the win. Brett Laurie scored three times on the ground as the Titans scored a 35-25 win over Niles West. Matt Hoshaw and Max Cohen added touchdowns in the victory.

New Trier (5-3, 3-1) at Waukegan (2-6, 0-4): The Trevians rallied for a 15-9 win over Evanston as Nick Hendricks threw two touchdowns in the second half and finished with over 200 passing yards. Jaleel Darr-Duffie had five catches and over 100 yards but the Bulldogs lost 44-20 to Maine South. J.D. Parsell returned a kickoff nearly 100 yards for a touchdown in the loss.
