The Lake County Game of the Week features a matchup that will determine the North Suburban Conference Prairie Division title as the 7-1 North Chicago Warhawks face off with the 7-1 Lakes Eagles in Lake Villa with a better playoff seed on the line along with the division.
North Chicago, who won just three games over the last three seasons, comes in off a dominating 38-15 win over Mundelein. Arnold Shead took matters into his own hands with over 310 yards rushing and four touchdowns to lead the Warhawks to the victory. Shead is going to need to be big again this week if North Chicago wants to win this game and win the divisional title because the Lakes defense is one that can stop any rushing game.
Lakes has been racking up points at a terrifying rate in recent weeks including a 56-12 win over Vernon Hills in Week 8. The Eagles have scored 262 points the last five weeks or over 52 a game. T.J. Edwards threw for over 250 yards in the first half with two touchdowns as Lakes rolled up a huge lead and rested their starters for most of the second half. The starters may need to play four quarters in this one just to get ready for the playoffs though.
The biggest question in this game is can North Chicago slow down Lakes and their red-hot offense? With this game being at Lakes, I’m not sure that North Chicago can hang with the Eagles. Shead will have to rush the ball well and keep the ball out of Edwards and Direll Clark’s hands if the Warhawks have any chance to winning this game. I don’t think that happens though, the Eagles will likely fly high again in this last game of the regular season. I’ll take Lakes 35-14.
