Some interesting games to conclude the 2012 regular season in the North Suburban…..
Lake Zurich (6-2, 4-1) at Warren (5-3, 3-2): Connor Schrader rushed for 85 yards and two touchdowns as the Bears squeezed past Stevenson 21-14. The Lake Zurich defense came up with eight sacks to set a school record for most in one game and with a win will have a share of the NSC Lake Division title. The Blue Devils won their third straight with a 21-18 win over Lake Forest. Davonte Wilcox scored with under a minute to play to gain the victory.
Lake Forest (5-3, 2-3) at Mundelein (0-8, 0-5): Andrew Clifford threw for over 225 yards but the Scouts fell 21-18 to Warren. Stephen Cirame scored with under six minutes left to give Lake Forest the lead, which the defense couldn’t hold. The Mustangs couldn’t keep up with North Chicago in a 38-15 loss. Josh Aranda had over 200 yards rushing and two touchdowns.
Stevenson (6-2, 4-1) at Zion-Benton (2-6, 1-4): Willie Bourbon had a rushing and passing touchdown but the Patriots couldn’t get past Lake Zurich in a 21-14 loss. A win this week would clinch a share of the NSC Lake title. The Zee-Bees were held to just three first downs in a 17-0 loss to Libertyville. Z-B had seven sacks in the game in holding down the Libertyville offense.
Grant (6-2, 4-1) at Antioch (3-5, 2-3): The Bulldogs had a struggle with Round Lake before Cody Meyer’s field goal with four seconds left gave Grant a 17-14 win. Andy Cacchione had over 110 yards rushing in the win for Grant. The Sequoits were eliminated from playoff contention with a 33-6 loss to Wauconda. Cody Gwinn scored the lone touchdown for Antioch in the loss.
North Chicago (7-1, 4-1) at Lakes (7-1, 5-0): This should decide if the NSC Prairie will be won by Lakes itself or be at least a two-way tie. The Warhawks struggled against Mundelein but came away with a 38-15 win. Arnold Shead rushed for over 310 yards and four touchdowns for North Chicago. T.J. Edwards had over 250 yards passing in just the first half as the Eagles pounded Vernon Hills 56-12. Direll Clark scored three touchdowns for Lakes.
Round Lake (0-8, 0-5) at Vernon Hills (1-7, 0-5): Chris Perry scored twice including a kickoff return as the Panthers fell just short of their first win with a 17-14 loss to Grant. The Cougars got trampled by Lakes in a 56-12 loss. Jordan Freiburn threw a touchdown pass to T. J. Flis while Josh Harris had a fumble return touchdown for Vernon Hills.
Libertyville (6-2) at Wauconda (5-3): The Wildcats scored their second straight shutout with a 17-0 win over Zion-Benton. Joey Salata rushed for over 120 yards and a touchdown while the Libertyville defense held Zion-Benton to just 55 yards and forced five turnovers. Austin Swenson passed for three touchdowns as Wauconda rolled past Antioch 33-6. David Starkey added two touchdowns for the Bulldogs.
