Princeton Harlan, quarterback for Mt. Pleasant High School in Tennessee, was charged with raping a child Wednesday.

According to Anthony Bailey, a Maury County Sheriff Detective, the alleged victim was a girl from Mt. Pleasant who is under the age of 13. Law enforcement officers believe the incident occurred around July 1.

“Rape of a child is different than rape…there’s no forced intercourse involved,” Bailey said.

The name of the victim is not being release because she is a juvenile.

According to Bailey, Harlan was released from jail on a $100,000 bond.

Harlan is facing a Class A felony and potentially might face 25 years in prison and a $50,000 fine.

Police officials started investigating the incident after receiving complaints from the alleged victim’s parents.

The 6’4, 185 lbs star had a great year with Mt. Pleasant, prior to this incident. Harlan passed for 1,565 yards and 17 touchdowns this season. He also rushed for 581 yards and 11 touchdowns.

Many schools have taken interest in Harlan’s talents, schools such as: Auburn, Vanderbilt, Notre Dame, Kentucky, South Carolina and Tennessee.

Unfortunately, I see many schools looking elsewhere after Harlan’s alleged rape charge.

I’m terribly disappointed in Harlan. He had a lot of potential to be a great quarterback and a role model for aspiring high school football players. Harlan now faces jail time and possibly losing his football career. There are probably many children in Tennessee that look up to Harlan and some of the accomplishments he had. I believe he let Mt. Pleasant high school and all of Tennessee down.
