As I alluded to earlier this week, the 6-4 Chelsea Bulldogs would have a tough time defeating the same team twice in a season, especially when both games on the road. The now 8-2 Tecumseh Indians got the job done this week and won the game 27-20. It was a tough, hard-fought game once again and the Indians did everything they could to limit the Bulldogs’ star running back Berkley Edwards. He was kept out of the end zone and couldn’t gain more than 100 yards of offense.

Chelsea did start out hot in this one. Tecumseh had the ball first and their quarterback Ben Dreslinski had a pass intercepted by Michael Steinhauer. He took the ball 51 yards back for a score. Zach Rabbitt added the extra point to take the 7-0 lead. The Bulldogs would add another score when Colton Platt would rush the ball 6 yards for a score. Rabbit would add another extra point and also a 27 yard field goal in the quarter to give Chelsea the 17-0 lead.

The Indians would answer back before the first ended. Dreslinski would find his receiver Casey Hunt for a 23 yards score through the air. The kick would fail and the score would be 17-6 at the end of the quarter.

Both defenses then stepped up and played tough. Tecumseh would get another score back when Spencer Hite would cap off a drive from a yard out late in the second. The kick would be good and the score at halftime would be 17-13.

Chelsea would push their lead up by three when Rabbitt would hit a 38 yard field goal. The Indians would tie it up before the quarter ended when Hite would find the end zone for the second time, this one was on a 4 yard run. The game was all tied up at 20-20 going into the final quarter.

The tie would be broken early into the quarter when Hite would once again find the end zone. The Indians took the 27-20 lead. Their defense would perverse it and it would hold to the final.

Chelsea’s quarterback Logan Brown completed 8 of his 13 passes for 86 yards and an interception. Edwards did lead the way on the ground with 28 carries for 88 yards. The leading receiver for the Bulldogs was Luke Hollandsworth who had 3 catches for 34 yards.

The Indians’ Dreslinski completed 15 of his 26 passes for 214 yards with a touchdown and an interception. Hite was the leading rusher with 31 carries for 112 yards and 3 touchdowns. They were led through the air by Hunt who had 6 catches for 96 yards and a touchdown. Kyle Bryan added 4 catches for 84 yards as well.

This brings an end to Chelsea’s season. Edwards has no more games to showcase his talents. He’s going to have to go by his highlights and individual workouts. I think it is just a matter of time before he has signed with someone though. His size could be a problem, but his speed is definitely some teams really want him for.

Tecumseh will continue on and will play in the district finals on the road at the undefeated Milan Big Reds. Milan defeated Carleton Airport this week at home in their pre-district game 14-7.
