The first round of the 2012 Illinois High School football playoffs saw many interesting games and several big upsets including top-seed Batavia losing at home to Downers Grove North in Class 7A but now the second round has arrived and with that, one step closer to going to the University of Illinois on Thanksgiving weekend to play for a state championship.

The second round has great games including in Class 6A where No. 2 seed Lakes has to hit the road to face No. 10 seed Lake Forest. In Illinois, the team who has hosted the fewest amount of playoff games coming into each round gets to host the next game and when the teams have hosted the same number of games, the higher seed hosts the game. With Lake Forest winning on the road last week and Lakes winning their game at home, the Scouts get to host this game. Also in 6A, a matchup between 9-1 teams as Lemont goes to Richards.

In Class 7A, No. 13 seed Prospect will be at home after upsetting 4th-seeded Glenbrook North in the first round. The Knights will play Wheaton North. There is one game worth really watching with top-seeded Glenbard West at No. 9 seed Libertyville. There is the potential for an upset in this game with a talented Wildcats squad at home.

In Class 8A, a rematch from the final week of the regular season is the big game with No. 6 seed Schaumburg at 3rd-seeded Palatine. Palatine beat Schaumburg 51-18 to win the Mid-Suburban League West Division in Week 9 and got the higher seed for the playoffs, which is now paying off. Here are the full second round playoff matchups with game dates and times.
