After a solid first round, the second round begins in Class 1A as the 10-0 Stockton Blackhawks go on the road to face the 7-3 Galena Pirates in the Class 1A Game of the Week on Saturday at 1 p.m.
The top-seeded Blackhawks have been an offensive force all season long, averaging just under 52 points a game while giving up less than 12 points per contest. TJ Knutson rushed for 215 to lead Stockton in their win while Logan Stover had over 125 rushing yards as the Blackhawks scored four times in the first 13 minutes of the game and finished with over 430 yards rushing. This team is nearly impossible to stop on offense with only one game scoring under 46 points all year.
The ninth-seeded Pirates are coming off a 27-21 win over East Dubuque to open their playoff run. Galena rushed for 340 yards as Jesse Sinagra had over 180 rushing yards and four touchdowns while Austin Long added over 120 yards on the ground himself. Galena is not a high-scoring team, averaging just 21 points a game while giving up just under 17 points per contest. The offense will need to show up in this game for the Pirates to have any chance to win.
It’s very obvious that these two teams love to run the football and run it a lot but there is one major difference in that Stockton’s offense seems like a well-oiled machine that can’t be slowed down. It’s going to be very difficult for Galena to stay in this game even at home and has to hold Stockton under 28 points to have any chance. I just don’t see that happening with how many points the Blackhawks have been putting up all season. I’ll take Stockton 49-21.
