The second round of the 2012 playoffs feature a rematch from the regular season in the Suburban Christian Conference as the 9-1 Aurora Christian Eagles are on the road against the 7-3 Immaculate Conception Knights on Saturday at 1 p.m. Aurora Christian beat Immaculate Conception 47-20 during Week 7.
The fourth-seeded Eagles are riding high after a 49-12 win over Chicago Raby in the first round. Ryan McQuade threw four touchdown passes and finished with over 165 passing yards. Chad Beebe had three TD receptions and over 110 receiving yards. Beebe is the son of Eagles coach and former NFL player Don Beebe and son has turned into a mirror image of his father on the field as the Eagles are averaging 47 points a game. Beebe has committed to play at Northern Illinois next season.
The 12th-seeded Knights hit the road and upset No. 5 seed North Boone 59-34 in the opening round and are now on a three-game winning streak. Immaculate Conception scored 52 of their points in the second half in the win. Demetrius Carr had three passing touchdowns and two more rushing to lead the Knights to the win. Immaculate Conception is averaging over 38 points per game while giving up 22 points a contest.
The last time these two teams played, the Eagles got a nearly 200 yard rushing performance from Joel Bouagnon with three touchdowns in opening up a 35-7 halftime lead. This game could turn into a similar game if the Knights don’t slow down the Eagles’ rushing game early on. Aurora Christian is the defending Class 3A state champion and I don’t think this game is going to slow down the Eagles’ chances of doing it again and they will move one step closer to that goal. I’ll take Aurora Christian 35-14.
