Illinois High School Football: Second Round Class 6A Game of the Week

Game of the Week

The second round of the Class 6A playoffs features a matchup of much different styles in a rematch from the regular season as the 9-1 Lakes Eagles go on the road to face the 7-3 Lake Forest Scouts on Friday at 7:30 p.m. in the Class 6A Game of the Week. Lake Forest defeated Lakes 20-13 in Week 3.

The second-seeded Eagles rolled to a 35-21 win in the first round against St. Viator for their seventh straight win. Direll Clark rushed for over 240 yards and three touchdowns to lead Lakes in the ground game as the Eagles racked up 385 yards of total offense. Clark will need to continue rushing like that in this game against a powerful Lake Forest offense that can score a lot of points in a hurry. Lakes is averaging nearly 43 points a game while giving up just under 13 points a contest.

The 10th-seeded Scouts rallied for 35 points in the second half in a 42-24 win over Rolling Meadows. Andrew Clifford threw for 288 yards while throwing three touchdowns as Lake Forest put up 379 yards. The Scouts’ defense came up with two touchdowns from Regis Durbin as well to rally from a 21-7 halftime deficit. Lake Forest is averaging 26 points a game while giving up just 12 points a game and will need to hold down the offense from Lakes for a second time this season.

When these two teams played in Week 3, Lake Forest scored two late touchdowns to come away with the win at home but couldn’t slow down Clark as the Lakes running back ran for over 140 yards. The Scouts will need to be a better job this time around while Clark has to run for another 150-160 yards and a touchdown for the Eagles to soar to the victory. I think though that Lakes will find a way to keep Lake Forest off the field for long enough to get the win. I’ll take Lakes 21-17.
