Graduating high school is a great thing, especially when you can do it early. It’s also an asset in recruiting since early enrollment can mean seeing the field quicker. This is something that is possible with Leon McQuay III who will graduate in December. McQuay is 6’2”, 185 pound safety prospect from Seffner, Florida. He’s considered to be the second best safety prospect in the nation, overall the 5th best prospect in the state of Florida and #18 overall in the nation. He’s narrowed his choices to 3 schools, but there are still a few teams that could still make a move for him.

McQuay plays for Armwood Hawks. He has led the defense which has only given up 122 points as they have racked up a 7-3 record. They’re waiting to see if they have done enough to make the playoffs and who they will play if they do. McQuay is hoping they get in so he can continue to showcase his abilities.

After watching his highlights I have noticed that he doesn’t have blazing speed, but what makes him great is that he can play press coverage very well. He does have good football speed and he can stick with most receivers he’s matched up against from his highlights. His real asset though is that he is a heavy hitter. If anyone tries to catch it over the middle they’re going to need to keep an eye out for him. In his highlights I’ve seen him do this multiple times. That is what teams want him to do when he roams their defensive backfield.

Another thing that’s great about this guy is his ability to come up in run support. That was something else that stood out to me in the highlights I saw. His diagnosis abilities are very good and have the speed to come up and stop the back before they get started. I want to see him play against a dual threat quarterback to see how good he can cover the pass and if he can keep the guy in check as well.

His top three teams right now are Florida State Seminoles, USC Trojans and the Vanderbilt Commodores. He’s already taken his official visit to Vanderbilt back in October. The 23rd of November he’ll take his visit to Florida St.

There are also 3 other teams that are still in the mix for him as well. Those teams are the Michigan Wolverines, Notre Dame Fighting Irish and Oregon Ducks. He’s scheduled to visit the Wolverines next week for their game against the Northwestern Wildcats.
