Top Football Recruit Vernon Hargreaves III Prospect Profile

Vernon Hargreaves III is the 3rd ranked football recruit in the ESPN150. He has quite a few strengths as the top ranked CB in the class. He can burst out of his cuts like a college shutdown corner already. He has the ability to jam a wide receiver at the line, which will also pay big dividends for him at the next level. He does need to improve his open field tackling ability and possibly also add a little bit more muscle to his frame as well. This will be essential for him if he wants to play pro ball one day, but at the college level he should be fine at his current frame.

Wharton defensive coordinator Kiwaukee Thomas has actually not played him at cornerback once this season. Hargreaves has lined up at both safety spots, all three linebacker positions, and defensive end. He has also played quarterback, running back, receiver, and he is even the team’s place holder on field goal attempts.

“Other teams have to game plan around him. He’s one of the best players in the country and he does so much for my defense and our team. Wherever he plays at, he makes plays. He’s got the attitude that he wants to be the best and he works hard… It’s just an honor coaching him.” — Wharton defensive coordinator Kiwaukee Thomas.

This high IQ level on the football field probably has something to do with the fact that his father Vernon Hargreaves II is the defensive ends coach and special teams coordinator for South Florida.

Hargreaves has verbally committed to Florida, and he should be making a lot of fans down in the Swamp quite happy next year.
