The 2012 football season is down to the last four teams as the state semifinals get underway this weekend in Illinois. In one Class 4A semifinal, the 11-1 Rock Island Alleman Pioneers face the 9-3 Evergreen Park Mustangs Saturday at 6 p.m. The other semifinal has the 11-1 Harrisburg Bulldogs on the road to see the 11-1 Rochester Rockets on Saturday at 3 p.m.
Rock Island Alleman comes into this game off a 28-13 win against Coal City in the quarterfinals while Evergreen Park beat Chicago Brooks 37-14 for their fourth straight win on the season. Alleman has been racking up points all season long with 416 points scored while giving up just 109 points all year.
Evergreen Park has scored a bunch themselves with 346 scored but have given up 233 points. That will be the difference in this game. I see Rock Island Alleman being able to put points on the board in bunches.
I’ll take Rock Island Alleman 37-21.
The other semifinal has a Harrisburg team that pounded Alton Marquette 41-7 last week and has now won nine straight games. Rochester has won 10 in a row after a 46-21 win over Peoria Notre Dame in the quarterfinals. Rochester is the defending Class 4A champion and that fact will come into play here for a team that has scored 541 points on the season.
Harrisburg can score some with 362 points on the year but I don’t think they can keep up with the Rochester attack especially on the road.
I’ll go with Rochester 40-28.
There is an intriguing matchup waiting if Rochester and Rock Island Alleman end up playing each other with the talented offense of Rochester against the great Rock Island Alleman defense.
