The number-two ranked high school senior basketball prospect Jabari Parker (Chicago Simeon Career Academy) visited Brigham Young University’s campus in Provo, Utah over the weekend. Parker is also considering Duke, Florida, Michigan State and Stanford. He is expected to commit in December or January.
In celebration of Parker’s visit, several BYU fans produced this parody video of Psy’s “Gangnam Style”. The quality of this video is actually quite high and I enjoyed it. It actually made me want Parker to go to BYU, because it would be fun to see by far the best player to ever go to BYU–with the possible exception of Danny Ainge, but let’s see how Parker’s career turns out before we truly decide. I would love to see if Parker could carry BYU to their first Final Four and possibly even go further.
A few BYU fans also designed a t-shirt and then asked for donations so that they could pass them out before BYU’s game on Saturday that Jabari will attend. They ended up getting a flood of donations and printing more than 6,000 t-shirts.
On Friday, Parker’s father, Sonny Parker, again said BYU has a real shot at his son.
“Remember he belongs to the Church of Latter-Day Saints,” Sonny said. “They got one of the winningest programs in the last 4-5 years if you look at their record. They average 25 wins a year. They don’t get the recognition of others. Their conference isn’t that bad. Remember they had the player of the year in Jimmer Fredette. They have a real good program.”
That recent quote from Sonny Parker gives me reason to believe that his son may actually go from Chicago to Provo–just like the video.
