The Texas A&M Aggies had their finest season in years, and it’s paying off in recruiting.

Head Coach Kevin Sumlin received the 33rd commitment in the 2013 class yesterday when defensive tackle Justin Manning announced his decision to play in College Station.

The Aggies have assembled the strongest and deepest collection of defensive tackles in the country so far in the 2013 class.  Manning joins fellow DT’s Isaiah Golden, Kerrick Huggins and Hardreck Walker. Manning is ranked by rivals.com as the 6th best DT in the country, Golden 9th, Huggins 13th and Walker 19th.  That’s an unbelievable haul.

Apparently the Aggies have noticed that having strong defensive lines, especially the interior, is crucial to success in the SEC.  Even some of the weaker schools in the nations strongest conference have deep and talented lines.

To prove the level of talent along the defensive line in the SEC, consider how many first rounders there potentially are for the 2013 NFL Draft: Damontre Moore (DE- Texas A&M), Sheldon Richardson (DT-Missouri Tigers), John Jenkins (Nose-Georgia Bulldogs), Barkevious Mingo (DE-LSU Tigers), Sam Montgomery (DE-LSU), Jesse Williams (Nose-Alabama Crimson Tide) and Sharrif Floyd (DT-Florida Gators).  Yes, having strong defensive lines is a common theme down south.  The Aggies are paying attention to that fact.

Manning is picking the Aggies over  the Oklahoma Sooners and Texas Christian Horned Frogs.  The 6’2” 275lb standout from Kimball High School in Dallas, Texas, chose the Aggies because of how deep and talented their current class is.

Many thought it would be Oklahoma, because his older brother, DeMarcus Granger, starred for the Sooners.  But he didn’t want to follow in his brothers footsteps.  He wanted to make his own path.

Who can blame a man for that?

It’s going to be very interesting to see the intense competition for playing time during summer camp next year between the four elite defensive tackles A&M is bringing on.
