Five-star defensive end Carl Lawson is already committed to the Auburn Tigers. But that won’t stop the talented senior in taking three official visits next month.
Is Lawson slipping away from Auburn? It’s a very good possibility that he is.
Clemson has been starting to make a push for the 2013 Under Armour All-American. Lawson took an unofficial visit there in the end of Novemeber and assistant coach and running backs coach Tony Elliott made a visit to Lawson at the beginning of December. One team that could surprise people in flipping Lawson very well could be Clemson.
The Trojans pull no punches when it comes to recruiting. When Lawson does take his visit there you better believe that head coach Lane Kiffin and company will roll out the red carpet. The Trojans are looking to improve on their already talented recruiting class. Look for the Trojans to make a late, heavy push for Lawson in the next month.
The Rebels in my opinion have the best shot at flipping Lawson from Auburn. What everyone seems to be waiting on is if top defensive end Robert Nkemdiche does in fact decide to go with the Rebels. If he does you could very well see a domino effect in the recruiting world as others would likely follow Nkemdiche, Lawson included. That would give the Rebels one of the top recruiting classes in the nation and also they would have the top two defensive ends in the nation. Scary when you think about it. Also Lawson’s friend and fellow Milton High standout running back Peyton Barber has committed to the Rebels as well.
I think the Tigers and new head coach Gus Malzahn could sense that Lawson could be slipping away, which is why Lawson received a visit from Malzahn last week. Will the Tigers eventually lose out on Lawson? I doubt it but these visits will put Malzahn and staff on edge in the next month.
