Initially it was thought that Jabari Parker would wait until the end of January or even early February to announce where he would be taking his talents. However, as most of you know by now, Parker announced last week that he would be ready to make his final decision this Thursday, Dec. 20, which can be seen live on ESPNU at 4 p.m. ET.

There are 5 schools remaining in the running for Parker’s services, Duke, Florida, Michigan State, Brigham Young, and Stanford, and all them have their fingers crossed that the 5-star small forward will choose them. This recruiting process isn’t the only distraction for Parker and the Simeon Wolverines. Jabari is still recovering from a fractured right foot that was suffered earlier this summer. On top of that 6 of his teammates were suspended for one game due to a stunt they pulled after winning the state championship last season.

These distractions have been significant for the No. 1 team in the country. After losing only three games in the last two years combine, the Wolverines stand with a 1-1 record this season as they fell to No. 18 Desoto, TX by a score of 67-57 on Thursday.

At the conclusion of this week, these distractions will be no more as Parker will have made his college decision and all six of his teammates will have served their suspensions. Thus, besides Jabari’s road to recovery, the Wolverines will be able to fully shift their focus on the season at hand and work towards bringing home their fourth straight state title.

Even though the loss does not have the Wolverines worried, as the season is still young, it may be a blessing in the long run. Losing early on in the season serves as a reality check for Simeon, knocking them off their pedestal. They will now realize that they are going to have to work hard and get their hands dirty if they hope to win that fourth straight state championship. Nothing is going to be given to them and being the powerhouse they’ve become, you can expect a big target on their backs throughout the season.
