The top center in the nation has shaved his list down to three schools. But Dakari Johnson is in no hurry on making a decision.
At the City of Palms Classic Johnson, who scored 23 points and grabbed 10 rebounds as his Montverde Academy defeated Bishop Verot 79-35, announced who his final three will be. The lucky programs are the Georgetown Hoyas, Syracuse Orange and Kentucky Wildcats.
Johnson had good things to say about all three of the schools, but I have to think the Wildcats are top on the list. Head coach John Calipari and his development of players is the key thing for Johnson.
Another main reason Johnson could very well go with the Wildcats is the fact that not only have they signed some top recruits, there are also a couple other prospects that could sign with them as well. Andrew and Aaron Harrison have both signed letters of intent to play for the Wildcats as well as James Young. Two other top recruits, Andrew Wiggins and Julius Randle, are high targets the Wildcats list as the Wildcats are also high on those two players’ list as well.
Now just imagine if the Wildcats were able land every single one of those top recruits. Pretty crazy stuff, huh?
Calipari could very well be sitting on a gold mine with these recruits. Of course some of them are potential “one and done’s,” jetting for the NBA after their freshman season. I do not see Johnson being one of those players however.
I do see Johnson committing to the Wildcats. Although he will not make a decision until spring after he has made visits to all three programs, in the end it will be Calipari and the Wildcats Johnson will ultimately choose. Johnson could very well be playing for one of the greatest classes that any team has been able to put together.
