This kid has a great handle, a nice in the lane floater, a 3 point game, and remarkable arm strength for his age. The 5th grade hoops prodigy out of Downey Christian School in Orlando, Florida, has been beating varsity opponents that are seven years older than him. He’s averaging 11.5 assists per game. He actually leads all Florida high school players in assists. That is remarkable and his middle school coaches probably saw it coming.

Two months ago, he scored 91 points in three quarters in a middle school game, which led to his varsity promotion. He could potentially play at the same school for the next eight years. I wonder how frighteningly good he might be by then. Imagine if he ends up being tall too. Phew. Scary good.

He scored 14 points, eight assists and had three steals against quality opponent Agape Christian. He plays some really scrappy defense as well and comes up with a lot of loose balls and a lot of steals. He plays with an intense amount of energy and it leads to production for him on the court. You see the looks on his opponents’ faces during the video that they are just in awe of Newman’s skill and embarrassed to get owned by someone so slight of stature.

Godspeed to Julian Newman and here’s hoping we can watch the young man eventually play college and then one day maybe even pro ball.
