Whitney Young High School in Chicago should count themselves lucky for the current players on their team. Jahlil Okafor and Paul White are leading the way for a team that is 15-1 and currently ranked first in Illinois over Jabari Parker’s Simeon Academy. Okafor is the top center prospect in the 2014 class, according to Scout.com, and he has impressed many with his skills and strength.
“In Okafor, we are witnessing the type of player who for the most part has been going the way of the dinosaurs,” said Rivals.com analyst Eric Bossi. “He is a true back-to-the-basket center who has serious game and skill when it comes to scoring in the low post.”
Okafor was AAU teammates with Parker for a time, and those must have been some very entertaining scrimmages with possibly the best post and perimeter players in the nation teamming up.
Okafor has offers from all the top basketball programs in the country and will have his pick of the litter. He and top ranked PG Tyus Jones apparently want to go to the same school, and I’m hoping that they do as long as they don’t go to Duke. So that will probably be happening given my luck. Whitney Young’s only loss came against Montverde Academy, which is currently the nation’s top-ranked high school basketball team. Okafor said last summer that he wants to prove he is the best player in Chicago and with Parker still working back from a foot injury, Okafor might just have a shot.
