Laquon Treadwell Commit is Tip of the Iceberg for Ole Miss Rebels

The top wide receiver in all the land, Laquon Treadwell (Crete, IL/Crete-Monee), committed to the Ole Miss Rebels on Thursday. For the Rebels, this is only the beginning.

The Rebels right now have what some would consider a top 10 or 15 recruiting class. Adding a few more pieces to the puzzle could easily change that to top five, and it looks as if that is a very good possibility.

Joining Treadwell could be the top 2013 recruit, defensive end Robert Nkemdiche (Loganville, GA/Grayson). Now I know that Nkemdiche has had an interesting recruiting road, leaving more questions on the table at this point than answers. But I honestly do believe that he will eventually wind up with the Rebels. Never mind the fact that he is taking an official visit to the Florida Gators this weekend. Nkemdiche will be another talented piece that will fall into place for coach Hugh Freeze and the Rebels.

Also a very good possibility and likely choice joining Treadwell is Tony Conner (Batesville, MS/South Panola), the top safety in the class. It looks as if Conner will wait until signing day to make his decision, but I do believe he stays in-state. There is some stiff competition (as there always is) with the Alabama Crimson TideConner did have an official visit with the Tide last weekend and has one set up with the Auburn Tigers this weekend. With that being said, I still see the very talented safety choosing the Rebels.

Another defensive end that will most likely choose the Rebels is Elijah Daniel (Avon, IN/Avon). Coach Freeze just made an in-home visit on Wednesday that by all accounts went well. The only other school to worry about would be the Mississippi State BulldogsBut don’t worry Rebels fans, all signs look to point to Daniel joining Treadwell in Oxford.

Here is where things get even more interesting. Top offensive lineman Laremy Tunsil (Lake City, FL/Columbia) is high on the Rebels radar. Currently uncommitted Tunsil is a prospect that the Rebels would very much love to land. With an official visit set up on January 25th the Rebels will look to do everything possible to get Tunsil to jump on board.

This next one could be a long shot, but never say never. Carl Lawson (Alpharetta, GA/Milton) is still, to my surprise, committed to the Tigers. With the firing of Gene Chizik and the decommits the program has dealt with, it looks to be a mess and more drama than anything. But give credit to Lawson for sticking to his guns. With that said it still doesn’t mean that Freeze and company will not work their butts off to try and flip the five-star defensive end.

The Rebels look to be on to something and have the potential to have one of the better classes this recruiting season. I’m confident that Nkemdiche, Conner and Daniel will choose the Rebels. Right now I can’t say I’m all that confident about Tunsil and Lawson looks to be a dark horse at this moment. Don’t count anyone out though, as Freeze and company will be burning the midnight oil until signing day to get all these highly touted players on board.
