Joel Berry’s Commitment to UNC Tar Heels Means Tyus Jones is Out
The commitment of Joel Berry to the UNC Tar Heels was great news for Roy Williams and his high tempo offense.
“He committed,” Berry’s travel coach Berry Hayes said. “He’s heading to the powder blue crew.”
It was bad news though, for the Tar Heel fans out there who wanted to see Tyus Jones and Jahlil Okafor kicking butt in Carolina Blue. Hard to blame Roy here, though; when you have a chance to lock down a top-five point guard you have to do it.
Just take a look at some of Tyus Jones’ highlight reel though, and tell me that Tar Heel fans shouldn’t be just a little bit bummed that they probably won’t get to see this young man.
Top Center in the 2014 class Jahlil Okafor has blogged that he and Jones would try to go to the same school too. Both young men currently have scholarship offers from the Tar Heels, but Jones will probably take his talents elsewhere, and rightfully so. Jones is not the type of talent you want coming off the bench. He should be starting for whatever program he plays for. Some Tyus Jones medicine though? Andrew Wiggins would do the trick.
UNC got an important commitment from Joel Berry, a top PG in Class of 2014. But can Roy close the gap on Andrew Wiggins?

Wiggins sure would look good in Carolina Blue, but Tyus Jones probably will not be joining him. What a shame for the Heels.
