Johnathon Wilkins has started turning heads, and it could land him in the ACC. He is a three-star center, according to scout, and is building recruiting buzz during a spectacular junior year.
His team the La Porte (Ind.) La Lumiere Lakers only have one loss so far this year, and Wilkins is the main impetus behind their early success. They recently beat Huntington Prep, the team of Andrew Wiggins, the top 2013 prospect.
“We just try to play hard every time out,” said Wilkins. “Even against the best players in the country you just have to play hard every time and play with great effort as a team.”
Recruiting interest has started to build for Wilkins as a result of the 6-foot-10 center’s impressive defensive play.
“Miami has been calling, Dayton, Wake Forest, Bradley, Purdue has as well,” said Wilkins. “I have a scholarship offer from Bradley.”
Wilkins recently visited Dayton, and he enjoyed his visit there, but hasn’t committed yet.
“I visited the school and had a chance to play with the team,” said Wilkins. “They are very good and they have a good campus. I like them a lot.”
Wilkins may be holding out for the Miami Hurricanes to see if he can play in the ACC against some of the best players in the country, but Miami has apparently told him to keep working.
“They have told me that I have to work hard to get my spot and that they are looking for a big guy like me in my class,” said Wilkins.
Wilkins will keep working hard, and Miami just better hope Wake Forest doesn’t make an offer while the Hurricanes are sitting on their hands.
