A’Shawn Robinson is a beast. The 6-foot-4, 305 pound guard is a revelation when you watch his highlights. The 5 star recruit out of Arlington Heights High (Arlington, TX) seems to pick guys up and carry them down the field; he probably had more pancake blocks than anyone else in high school football last year. When you watch film of him, he seems to drive defensive lineman down the field for 5 or 6 yards on every play.
Granted, it will be harder to move the pile when he is at the next level, but the raw skills are truly tantalizing. He could probably play either offensive or defensive line at the college level, because he has the athleticism to do so. He is currently listed as a defensive tackle on Scout. When he plays defense, he commands at least a double team on every play and he will be a difference maker for whatever school he goes to.
Robinson has made a soft verbal commitment to the University of Texas Longhorns, and Mack Brown has to be glad to get some premier defensive talent after getting outscored a lot last year. Brown’s job may even be on the line now that he has defensive talent like Robinson to go along with guys like Jonathan Gray, last year’s Gatorade High School Athlete of the Year.
We’ll just have to see whether Robinson will be run blocking for Gray, or if he will just become a defensive menace in the Big 12.
