O.J. Howard is an athletic tight end in the Vernon Davis mold; Howard is 6-foot-5 and 225 pounds of muscle. His midair adjustments to get back to the ball are really advanced for his age. He can even get better at this, which is the scary part. He is by far the best tight end in the country and do you have any idea where he might go?
Alabama, of course, did you really even have to ask?
Howard did not face terribly stiff competition in high school, so the adjustment period for him into the SEC may take a little while. Once he gets his feet wet though watch out. He will create serious mismatches when Nick Saban starts running him on downfield passing routes. There aren’t many cornerbacks or safeties that will be able to tackle Howard on a full head of steam.
His quarterback in high school was often able to just throw the ball in Howard’s general vicinity and then he would find a way to come down with the ball. He needs to work on his technique in the run blocking game, but that really is the only chink in his armor at the moment.
Howard is out of Autauga Academy in Pratville, Alabama so it shouldn’t be a shock that he committed to the Crimson Tide. He is very excited to play for Saban, and he might be part of Alabama’s three-peat next year, if they are able to make it that far again.
